Immunodeficiency disorders are a group of conditions that disrupt your body’s ability to defend itself against bacteria, viruses and parasites. For kids, this diagnosis means that everyday activities like going to school, playing sports or spending time with friends can carry serious risks.
Our Center for Pediatric Immunology is a collaborative effort between St. Louis Children’s and several nationally and internationally recognized programs at Washington University – including pediatric rheumatology and immunology, allergy and pulmonary medicine, hematology and oncology.
The Children’s Discovery Institute (CDI) provides the largest source of funding for the science performed by the center. The CDI is a partnership between St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital Foundation and Washington University School of Medicine. It was established in 2006 to address a funding gap in research focused on pediatric diseases. The CDI was created to support clinical investigators pursuing new understandings of childhood illnesses.
Our center is part of a shared vision to change the way pediatric research is conducted and offer innovative therapies for patients who were previously considered untreatable.
